Fairmont Mayakoba, the outstanding luxury resort located right in the heart of the Riviera Maya, offers travelers the opportunity of enjoying a lifetime vacation, providing them peace of mind as they won’t be affecting the environment.
In order to be considered as a sustainable resort, it is necessary to comply with several aspects that go further than being in harmony with the environment, as it is also required to provide social-economic benefits to the local communities, and to care for promoting the region’s culture.
Sustainability Partnership Program
Carried out by Fairmont Mayakoba, the Sustainability Partnership Program prioritizes and balances environmental, social and cultural matters, in order to strengthen the company’s integrity and responsibility.
Since its opening, Fairmont has developed sustainable practices that keep with Mayakoba’s luxury and nature; a token of this is the opportunity for guests to admire and learn more about endemic fauna, throughout the hotel’s surroundings. Some of the species that can be found there, are: turtles, sea eagles, herons, fish, coatis, and even deer.
During Fairmont’s construction stage, recycled materials were used as much as possible, more than 10 thousand plants were relocated, and several procedures were created to keep with the protection and conservation of the area’s natural surroundings: mangrove forests, low jungle, rainforest, water canals, coral reef, and beaches.
Energy Saving Program
With a more than 8 million pesos investment, Fairmont Mayakoba created the Energy Saving Program, which features the implementation of a series of measures that contribute to reduce the energy consumption: led TVs and lightbulbs, software-regulated air conditioning system, etc.
These measures are translated into a 188,933 KWh saving, which means a yearly 83-tons reduction in CO2 emissions.
Regarding water conservation, the hotel features low-consumption showers, sinks and toilets, which allow a daily 3-thousand liters saving. This one in addition to some other practices implemented in the laundry department, have turned into a daily water saving of 180 liters; an amount that brings a yearly water saving of 65 thousand liters.
These are just some of the wide range of sustainable measures implemented by Fairmont Mayakoba in its daily operation; a respectful set of procedures bound to take care of the natural, cultural and social environment where it was built.
